Broome Apartments
In 1861, the world's largest pearl shell was discovered in abundance at Roebuck Bay. Virtually overnight, Broome experienced a 'pearl rush' of fortune hunters from Europe and the East. Today, remnants of Broome's exotic past are everywhere. Its multicultural society ensures a magnificent array of gourmet tastes, colourful characters and cultural influences.
There are so many things to see and do in Broome, from a sunset camel ride on the beach to a hovercraft tour of Roebuck Bay. And that's just the beginning of your adventure because Broome is the gateway to the rugged and spectacular Kimberly region. You can explore this fabulous wilderness by land, sea or air and every day is an unforgettable experience.
Lord Alistair McAlpine, a member of the British aristocracy is largely responsible for the Broome of today. Lord Mac fell in love with Australia, and invested very heavily in Broome during the 1980s. He developed a great deal of the town maintaining the style that can still be seen today at the historic Roebuck Hotel in the centre of China Town.
Broome has a tropical climate of hot, humid summers and warm winters. We have two distinct seasons, 'green season' and 'the dry'.
The 'green season' officially commences in November but Broome does not usually experience much, if any rain before late December. Most of the annual rainfall for Broome is, on average, from January through to March and can be accompanied by thunderstorms and tropical lows or cyclones. Daytime temperatures during the 'green season' are in the mid 30s C with the overnight temperature averaging around the mid 20s C. Broome is situated on a peninsula with water on three sides so we have reliable afternoon sea breezes from the northwest to southwest during the warmer months.
April is classed as the start of Broome's 'dry season'. Temperatures during this time can be expected to be in the vicinity of mid 20s C to low 30s C with overnight temperatures averaging approximately 17C. Rarely will the temperatures drop below 10C. Broome does not usually experience any significant rain at this time of the year.
